Shinrin Yoku/Forest Bathing/Forest Therapy was developed in Japan during the 1980s, when the tech boom saw Japanese workers flocking to indoor workspaces, sitting in front of computers under fluorescent lights (sound familiar?). At the same time, the Japanese health community noticed a spike in chronic issues such as stress, hypertension, depression and anxiety. Today, Shinrin Yoku is a key component of preventive health care and healing in Japan. You can experience the healing benefits of nature right here in DC in local settings, with similar benefits.
Forest Immersion DC is Toby’s local take on Shinrin Yoku. DC has repeatedly been named the most fit city in America, but many of us are stressed out! Forest bathing is an accessible but effective way to experience the healing benefits of nature. By simply spending time among trees, you can right your relationship to nature, your community, and maybe even to yourself. Wherever you were born, we all have our human roots in the forest. We are a part of nature!
